Talk to Jesus

I was directed to an extremely interesting blog post today while searching technorati. It is probably one of the most unique promotional activities I have ever come across.
The Titusonenine blog (http://titusonenine.classicalanglican.net/?p=15577) made a post today about an advertising campaign to market Jesus to youths. The campaign is being backed by the ecumenical charity Churches Advertising Network who hope to increase the youth presence in church during the holidays. In order to make a connection with young people, the network has created a Myspace page for Jesus (www.myspace.com/isthisjesus).
Jesus' Myspace page was visited by over 8,000 people in the first week it was created. The page is setup in a way that is very relatable to the youth market. He now has 819 friends who comment on his page quite frequently. Most of the comments he receives are along these lines:
"JESUS!! hello...............love ya! xxx "
"Jesus is my
homeboy! "
"HELLO JESUS what does heaven look like some day i hope 2 go there tty
sometime bye jesus i <3>
I think that creating a Myspace page for Jesus was a very clever promotional activity on behalf of the ecumenical charity Churches Advertising Network. It is clear from Jesus' friends comments that he is still loved and respected by the youth age group, but that still doesn't mean that they attend church regularly. Having this connection with Jesus through a new, technological trend may help to remind youths of Jesus and their faith. With that being said, this innovative strategy just may increase youth attendance in church over the holidays. What do you think? Would you be more inclined to attend church if you were reminded of your faith on a more regular basis through everyday activities such as this one? Leave your opinions in a comment!
